A review from David M., the G.M.
What makes this flashlight so popular that it has people running to get it in their light arsenal? How about a barn burning 180 lumen,  2 hour 16 minute continuous run-time flashlight that runs off of 2 AA batteries sound to you?

For starters it employs the latest technology in LED advancement. Fenix uses a Cree XP-G (R5) LED. Fenix lists it as having a 50,000 hour lifespan. Lets do some math here. Multiply that by minutes and you’ve got 3 million minutes of run time until the LED is expected to deteriorate.  Well what the heck does that mean? That’s a constant, non-stop 24hr/day operational expectancy of 1440 days, or 5 years and 8 1/2 months. Continuous!   So, in other words, it has  a lifetime expectancy in real-world application. So, engrave it and pass it on to your grand-kids.

The reflector lens on this is light is also state of the art. It offers better throw than its discontinued predecessor the LD20 R4, (which was incorrectly listed as a 205 Lumen Flashlight and has since been adjusted to the ANSI rating at 180 lumens in the LD20 R5 version) which was a difficult feat.

The Fenix LD20 R5 180 Lumen flashlight also has slimming features which makes it a smart choice for those who need a simple go-to light for night time walking, hiking and thanks to its strobe feature, personal security (volunteering to be hit with the 180 strobe mode in the dark left me quite disoriented and nauseous).

From Toolnut.com
The Fenix LD20 180 Lumen LED Flashlight is our number one selling flashlight...and for good reason.  At a very affordable $59.95, the Fenix LD20 R5 POPS with 180 lumens, previously rated at 205 lumens.  It wasn't until Fenix asked ANSI to test the light that the lumen rating was changed.  Nothing has changed about the light itself aside from an upgrade to a Cree XP-G LED (R5).  The LD20 light has a Ti exterior coating for toughness and also a steel body clip which is a big plus in our eyes.  How many times do you lose a light just because something like a clip was not included?  I know we all have many times.  Easily attach the Fenix light to a pocket, belt clip, etc and hold onto your investment.

The Fenix LD20 light is powered by two AA batteries.  An awesome choice - always easy to find replacements if you're out in the field and don't have any extra battery packs with you.  Other features, likely not noticed by those who aren't as discerning as the intense flashlight nut include: anti-rolling bevel design, hard anodized finish, a very smooth and friendly tail cap switch with U shaped tail and knurling for better grip.

The anti rolling bevel design prevents the light from rolling off the table.  Along with the belt clip, this light will never be out of sight.  Small features like this are quickly making Fenix a true standout brand.  Fenix also claims a wear resistant thread design on the tailcap / body interface.  We haven't fussed around long enough with our's to really determine how "wear resistant" it is, but time will tell.  IPX-8 water proofing is the new standard for most Fenix lights and again, it's a feature we love.  No need to worry that your precious baby is going to get hurt in a little rain or a drop into a stream, etc when you're out in the woods or in the field.  Nothing frustrates us more than that!  For most lights, one little drop of water can mean the end - that's just not ok with us and apparently no longer with Fenix.
