Concrete Planers

Concrete Planers for Surface Prep and Grinding

Concrete planers grind high spots, coatings, thinset, and paint off slabs and walls with a diamond cup wheel. Every planer in this collection is a corded Makita. The 5-inch PC5000C and PC5001C cover general surface work. The PC5010C compact SJSII model ships with a dust extraction shroud, and the PC5010CX1 kit adds a diamond cup wheel. For wider passes, the GA9060RX3 is a 7-inch surface planer with its own shroud.

What to Look For

  • Wheel size. A 5-inch planer is easier to control along edges and on walls. The 7-inch GA9060RX3 removes material faster on open floor.
  • Dust control. Grinding concrete makes fine silica dust. Pick a model with a shroud and connect it to an extractor.
  • Included wheel. Some kits include a diamond cup wheel. Others need one purchased separately.
  • Body size. The compact SJSII body is lighter for overhead and vertical grinding.

Concrete Planers FAQ

Concrete planer or angle grinder?

An angle grinder with a cup wheel can grind small patches. A dedicated concrete planer is built around the cup wheel and shroud, so it runs flatter, controls depth better, and collects more dust over large areas.

Do I need a vacuum with a concrete planer?

Yes for most indoor work. The shroud only captures dust when it is hooked to a dust extractor with suitable filtration. Running a planer without extraction fills the room with concrete dust.
