Cordless Electrician Tools: Heat Guns, Knockouts, and Soldering

Cordless electrician tools take common trade tasks off the outlet. Heat guns for shrink tubing and thawing make up much of this collection: the Milwaukee M18 compact heat gun, DeWALT 20V MAX, Makita 18V LXT standard and variable temperature models, and the Bosch 18V. For panel work there are Milwaukee FORCE LOGIC 6T and 10-Ton knockout kits rated 1/2" to 4" and the DeWALT 20V MAX hydraulic knockout kit. The M12 soldering iron with pointed and chisel tips, an M18 FUEL branch conduit bender, and an M18 FUEL cable stripper round it out.

What to Look For

  • Knockout capacity. Check the punch range in each kit against the conduit sizes you install.
  • Heat control. Variable temperature heat guns let you work on heat-sensitive materials.
  • Platform. Most tools here are M12, M18, 20V MAX, or 18V LXT. A few Milwaukee heat guns are corded.

Cordless Electrician Tools FAQ

6-ton or 10-ton knockout tool?

More tonnage punches thicker enclosures and larger holes with less strain. Milwaukee lists both its 6T and 10-Ton kits at 1/2" to 4", so compare the included punches and the weight you want to carry.

Can a cordless heat gun shrink heat shrink tubing?

Yes. Cordless heat guns are built for shrink tubing and light thawing on site. For long stripping jobs, a corded heat gun runs without battery swaps.
