Heaters

Construction and Shop Heaters by Size and Fuel

This collection spans three scales. The Milwaukee M18 70,000 BTU forced air propane heater is a cordless-powered unit for garages and small sites. Mi-T-M covers portable kerosene and propane forced air heaters from 135,000 to 600,000 BTU, gas-fired convection heaters, propane radiant patio heaters, and tank-top radiant heaters. Generac MAC mobile heaters serve large commercial jobs with indirect-fired, flameless air, and hydronic surface units.

What to Look For

  • Heat output. Size BTU to the space. A garage needs far less than an open building shell.
  • Direct or indirect fired. Direct-fired heaters put combustion air into the space. Indirect-fired heaters send clean heated air through a duct.
  • Heat delivery. Forced air moves heat fast, convection heats evenly, and radiant warms people and surfaces in front of it.
  • Ground thaw. Hydronic surface heaters warm ground and concrete rather than air.

Heaters FAQ

Direct-fired or indirect-fired heater?

Direct-fired forced air heaters are efficient and portable, but they release combustion byproducts into the space. Indirect-fired units, such as the Generac MAC indirect mobile heaters, vent those outside and duct clean air in, which suits occupied or enclosed areas.

Can I use a propane or kerosene heater indoors?

Only as the manual allows. Fuel-burning heaters need fresh air and set clearances from anything that can burn. Follow the ventilation and clearance rules for your model and use a carbon monoxide detector.
