Makita Router Bits

Makita Router Bits for Edges, Joinery, and Doors

Makita router bits are mostly carbide-tipped with 1/4 or 1/2 inch shanks. Edge profiles include corner round from 1/4 inch to 1 inch radius, cove, bull nose, and 22.5 and 45 degree chamfers. For joinery, there are straight and top bearing bits, rabbet and adjustable rabbet bits, slot cutters, tongue and groove, 45 degree lock miter, and 9 degree dovetail. Cabinet door makers will find stile and rail sets in bead and ogee and raised panel bits. Flush and no-file trim bits clean up laminate and template work.

What to Look For

  • Shank size. 1/2 inch shanks are stiffer for large profiles. 1/4 inch fits compact routers.
  • Carbide or HSS. Carbide-tipped bits stay sharp longer. HSS suits occasional softwood work.
  • Bearing. Bearing-guided bits follow an edge or template without a fence.
  • Router size. Raised panel and large profile bits need a full-size router.

Makita Router Bits FAQ

Can I run 1/2 inch shank bits in a compact router?

Usually not. Compact routers and trimmers such as the RT0701C take 1/4 inch shanks. Use a full-size router with a 1/2 inch collet for 1/2 inch shank bits, especially raised panel and stile and rail sets.

Which bits do I need to make cabinet doors?

A matched stile and rail pair cuts the frame joints, and a raised panel bit shapes the center panel. Makita offers stile and rail bits in bead and ogee profiles and raised panel bits in two sizes, all with 1/2 inch shanks.
