Pipe Wrenches

Pipe Wrenches in Aluminum and Steel

Pipe wrenches grip round pipe and fittings with serrated jaws that bite harder as you pull. Milwaukee makes nearly all of this collection, with steel and aluminum straight pipe wrenches from 6 to 24 inches, offset and smooth jaw versions, a self-adjusting wrench, POWERLENGTH handles, and the CHEATER extendable and adaptable wrenches. Knipex adds 250 mm pipe gripping pliers with serrated or replaceable plastic jaws.

What to Look For

  • Aluminum or steel. Aluminum handles weigh less for overhead and all-day work. Steel handles are heavier and stand up to rough use.
  • Length. Longer wrenches open wider and give more leverage on larger pipe.
  • Jaw style. Offset jaws reach pipe close to walls. Smooth jaws and plastic jaws protect finished fittings.
  • Extendable handle. CHEATER wrenches extend from 11 to 24 inches for extra leverage without a second tool.

Pipe Wrenches FAQ

Which pipe wrench sizes should I own?

A 14-inch and an 18-inch wrench handle most residential pipe. Add a 10-inch for small fittings and a 24-inch for larger pipe. Use two wrenches together to hold one fitting while turning the other.

When should I use pipe gripping pliers instead?

Knipex pipe gripping pliers are lighter and work in tighter spaces. The plastic jaw version holds chrome and finished surfaces without marring them.
