Rebar Cutting / Tying Tools

Rebar Tying Tools, Cutters, and Benders

Rebar tools speed up the slowest parts of concrete prep: cutting bar to length and tying intersections. Makita leads with the 40V max XGT GRT01 16-gauge rebar tying tool, the 18V LXT XRT01 tying tool, the XRT02 deep capacity tier, and tie wire in 16 and 21 gauge, including poly-coated and USA made steel. Cordless rebar cutters include the Makita XCS01 and brushless XCS04. For cutting and bending, choose the Metabo HPT VB16YM and 36V MultiVolt VB3616DAM or the Jet RCB-25. Klein adds an aluminum tie wire reel.

What to Look For

  • Tie or cut. Tying tools wrap and twist wire at each intersection. Cutters and bender cutters size and shape bar.
  • Bar size. Check the bar capacity on each cutter. The Jet RCB-25 handles bar up to 5/8-inch, and the Metabo HPT VB16YM is rated for #5 bar.
  • Deep capacity. The Makita XRT02 reaches larger bar intersections than the standard XRT01.
  • Wire match. Use the tie wire made for your tool. The 16-gauge reel lists the GRT01.

Rebar Cutting / Tying Tools FAQ

Is a rebar tying tool worth it?

On decks, slabs, and walls with hundreds of intersections, a tying tool saves time and wrist strain compared to hand tying. Crews often use one tool at ground level and hand tie only where the tool cannot reach.

Rebar cutter or bender cutter?

A cutter only cuts bar to length. A bender cutter, such as the Metabo HPT and Jet models here, also bends bar for hooks and corners, which saves a second tool on site.
