Recip Saw Blades

Choosing Reciprocating Saw Blades

The right recip saw blade depends on what you are cutting. Milwaukee SAWZALL blades make up most of this collection: bi-metal sets from 10 to 32 pieces, TORCH and NITRUS carbide blades for metal, The AX and THE WRECKER carbide blades for nail-embedded wood and demolition, pruning blades, a drywall access blade, a scraper blade, and bulk 25 and 50 packs. Diablo adds Demo Demon carbide, fleam ground pruning, and PVC blades. DeWALT and Festool offer bi-metal sets.

What to Look For

  • Material. Pick wood, metal, demolition, pruning, or plastic blades by the main material you cut.
  • TPI. Lower TPI, like 3 to 6, cuts wood fast. Higher TPI, like 14, cuts thin metal smoothly.
  • Carbide or bi-metal. Carbide teeth last longer in nail-embedded wood and hard metal. Bi-metal blades cost less for general use.
  • Length. 6" blades control well in tight spots. 9" and 12" blades reach through thick stock and branches.

Recip Saw Blades FAQ

Do reciprocating saw blades fit all brands of saws?

Most recip saws, including Milwaukee, DeWALT, Makita, and Festool models, take standard universal shank blades. HACKZALL one-handed saws use the same shank but work best with shorter blades like the Milwaukee HACKZALL set.

Why buy a carbide recip blade?

Carbide blades cost more but last much longer than bi-metal blades in demolition, cast iron, and hardened metal. If you cut nail-embedded wood or thick steel daily, carbide saves blade changes.
