Routers / Shapers
Corded and Cordless Routers by Platform
Routers in this collection split cleanly between cordless and corded. Cordless options run on battery platforms you may already own: Milwaukee M18 FUEL compact and 1/2-inch routers, DeWALT 20V MAX XR compact and plunge routers, Makita 18V LXT compact routers, and the Bosch 12V Max palm edge router. Corded options include Festool OF 1010 R, OF 1400, OF 2200, and MFK 700, Makita compact and 3-1/4 HP plunge routers, the DeWALT DWP611, Milwaukee 5625-20, Bosch 1617EVSPK, and Triton dual mode routers. A few router tables are listed too.
What to Look For
- Cordless or corded. Cordless compact routers suit site trim and edge work. Corded routers run long table sessions without battery swaps.
- Brand system. Festool routers connect to Festool guide rails and extractors. Cordless routers share batteries with the rest of that brand.
- Tool only. Tool-only cordless listings assume you have batteries and a charger.

Routers / Shapers FAQ
Can a cordless router handle 1/2-inch bits?
Some can. The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 1/2-inch router and the DeWALT DCW620B plunge router, which lists 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch collets, take larger shanks. Compact cordless routers are built for 1/4-inch bits.
What is the Festool MFK 700 for?
It is a modular edge router built for trimming edge banding and laminate flush. Interchangeable bases, including horizontal bases, set it up for different trimming jobs.
