Jigsaws: Barrel Grip, Top Handle, Corded, and Cordless

Jigsaws cut curves, cutouts, and scrolls in wood, sheet goods, and thin metal. This collection covers Festool, Milwaukee, DeWALT, Makita, and Bosch. Festool offers corded Carvex PS 420 and PSB 420 models, cordless Carvex PSC 420 and PSBC 420 saws, and TRION PS 300 and PSB 300 models. Milwaukee offers M18 FUEL barrel grip and D-handle saws plus M12 FUEL and M12 options. DeWALT has 20V MAX top-handle and barrel models, Makita has 18V LXT top-handle and barrel grip saws, and Bosch adds a corded top-handle and an 18V jigsaw.

What to Look For

  • Grip. Barrel grip saws sit low for control on curves. Top-handle and D-handle saws are easier for straight cuts and one-handed use.
  • Power. Cordless saws move freely on site. Corded saws suit long shop sessions.
  • Platform. Buy tool-only on the battery system you already own.
  • Blade support. Better blade guides keep cuts square in thick stock.

Jigsaws FAQ

Barrel grip or top handle?

Choose barrel grip if you cut tight curves and want your hand close to the work. Choose a top handle or D-handle if you mostly make straight or gentle cuts and like a trigger grip.

What do Festool PS, PSB, PSC, and PSBC mean?

PS models are barrel grip and PSB models are top or D-handle. The added C marks the cordless Carvex versions, so the PSC 420 is a cordless barrel grip and the PSBC 420 is a cordless D-handle.
