Boring Router Bits
Hinge Boring and Line Boring Router Bits
Boring router bits drill flat-bottomed holes for concealed cabinet hinges and shelf pin lines. This collection carries Festool Euro-hinge boring bits in 20 mm and 35 mm, Bosch European hinge boring bits from 15 mm to 40 mm, and Bosch hinge boring bits in 5, 8, and 10 mm with right twist and left twist versions. CMT adds hinge boring bits from 25 mm to 40 mm in right hand (RH) and left hand (LH) rotation, plus TCT boring bits on 9.5 mm and 12.7 mm shanks.
What to Look For
- Hinge cup size. 35 mm is the common cup size for concealed cabinet hinges. Match the bit to your hinge maker's spec.
- Rotation. Multi-spindle boring machines alternate spindle direction, so buy right hand and left hand bits to suit each spindle.
- Shank and length. Check that the shank diameter and overall length fit your boring machine or drill press chuck.
- Carbide. Carbide-tipped (HW or TCT) bits stay sharp longer in particleboard and melamine.

Boring Router Bits FAQ
What is the difference between right twist and left twist bits?
The twist direction must match spindle rotation. Line boring machines run neighboring spindles in opposite directions, so each spindle takes a bit with matching twist. Using the wrong one pushes chips into the hole and burns the bit.
Can I use a hinge boring bit in a handheld drill?
A drill press or boring machine is the better choice. It keeps the bit square and controls depth, which matters for a clean hinge cup that sits flush.
