Cordless Ratchets

Cordless Ratchets for Automotive and Equipment Work

A cordless ratchet spins fasteners on and off fast in engine bays and under dashboards, then lets you finish by hand. Milwaukee M12 dominates this collection: M12 FUEL 3/8" and 1/2" ratchets, 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch high speed ratchets, 3/8" extended reach models, and the INSIDER extended reach box ratchet, plus brushed M12 1/4" and 3/8" ratchets. DeWALT offers ATOMIC 20V MAX 3/8 and 1/2 in. ratchets, XTREME 12V MAX standard and extended reach ratchets, and a 20V MAX XR variable speed ratchet. Makita adds 18V LXT and 12V max CXT ratchets with 3/8" / 1/4" drives.

What to Look For

  • Drive size. 1/4" for small fasteners and trim, 3/8" for most automotive work, 1/2" for larger bolts.
  • Head style. Extended reach and box ratchets get into tight spots where a standard head will not fit.
  • Speed or torque. High speed ratchets run down long threads fast. Standard ratchets trade speed for torque.

Cordless Ratchets FAQ

What does a box ratchet do?

The Milwaukee M12 FUEL INSIDER uses a pass-through socket head instead of a square drive. Long bolts and studs pass through the socket, and the slim head fits where a standard ratchet and socket cannot.

Can I use a cordless ratchet to break bolts loose?

Cordless ratchets are built for speed, not breakaway torque. Break tight fasteners loose by hand or with an impact wrench, then use the cordless ratchet to run them out.
