Can one charger handle 12V MAX and 20V MAX batteries?

What does the DeWALT 18V to 20V adapter do?
The DCA1820 slides onto DeWALT 18V tools and accepts 20V MAX batteries, so older 18V tools keep working on current packs. The DCA2203C kit adds two 2.0Ah batteries.
