Hardwood Flooring Nailers and Subfloor Systems

Flooring nailers drive cleats or staples through the tongue of hardwood boards at the correct angle, so each board pulls tight and the fastener stays hidden. You strike the plunger with a mallet, and the tool sets the fastener. This collection includes the Bostitch MIIIFN pneumatic cleat nailer, the manual Bostitch MFN-201, the Cadex V3/20.32FC pneumatic cleat nailer, and the DeWALT DWFP12569 2-in-1 flooring tool. Simpson Strong-Tie Quik Drive PRO250 systems drive collated screws for subfloor work.

What to Look For

  • Air or manual. Pneumatic nailers set fasteners with less effort per blow. The manual MFN-201 needs no compressor or hose.
  • Fastener type. Cleat nailers suit most solid hardwood. A 2-in-1 tool shoots cleats or staples, so you can follow the flooring maker's fastener spec.
  • Board thickness. Bostitch sells a conversion kit for the MIIIFN, so check which kit or base plate matches your flooring.
  • Posture. The Bostitch BTFAFOOTG2 rolling base lets you work standing up on the MIIIFN.

Flooring Nailers FAQ

Do I need a separate mallet?

Yes for the Bostitch, Cadex, and DeWALT flooring tools here. Use a mallet with a non-marring face so you drive the plunger without bouncing. A dedicated flooring mallet such as the Bostitch HFM-4 is in our hammers collection.

What is the Quik Drive PRO250 for?

It is an auto-feed screw system for fastening subflooring, not a hardwood nailer. Versions here pair the PRO250 attachment with a Makita corded screwdriver motor or a DeWALT cordless motor.
