Hammer Drills
Cordless Hammer Drills for Masonry and Wood
Hammer drills add a rapid hammering action to the chuck so bits bore into brick, block, and concrete, then switch it off to drill wood and drive screws. This collection covers Milwaukee M18, M18 FUEL, and M12 FUEL models, DeWALT 20V MAX and XR 3-speed hammer drills plus the 12V XTREME, Makita 18V LXT hammer driver-drills, and Festool QUADRIVE TPC 18/4 and PDC 18/4 sets in Systainer3 cases. Choose tool only to add to batteries you own or a kit to start fresh.
What to Look For
- Chuck size. Most are 1/2 in. The DeWALT DCD706 uses a 3/8 in. chuck for lighter work.
- Speeds. DeWALT 3-speed models give a high speed range for small holes and a low range for large bits.
- Size. Compact models fit between studs. Full-size FUEL and XR drills handle large holes and mixing.
- Kit or bare tool. Kits add batteries and a charger. Festool sets ship in Systainer3 cases.

Hammer Drills FAQ
Can a hammer drill replace my drill driver?
Yes. Turn the hammer mode off and it drills wood and metal and drives screws like a standard drill driver. It is usually a little longer and heavier, so some users keep a compact driver for overhead work.
When do I need a rotary hammer instead?
For frequent holes in concrete or anything past about 1/2 in. in diameter, step up to a rotary hammer. Hammer drills suit occasional anchor holes in brick and block.
