Hard Hats

Choosing the Right Hard Hat or Safety Helmet

Hard hats protect your head from falling objects and overhead bumps. This collection is built around Milwaukee and Klein Tools. Milwaukee offers full brim and front brim hard hats with 4PT ratcheting suspension, vented and non-vented safety helmets, and BOLT eye visors, face shields, a headlamp mount, sweat bands, and a chin strap. Klein adds KONSTRUCT Series and vented hard hats with rechargeable headlamps, plus a 6 point suspension.

What to Look For

  • Type 1 or Type 2. Type 1 hard hats are rated for impact from the top, while the Type 2 safety helmets here are also rated for impact from the sides.
  • Electrical class. Class E and Class G shells are rated for electrical work, while Class C shells, including most vented models here, offer no electrical protection.
  • Brim style. Full brim shells shed sun and rain on all sides. Front brim and cap style shells sit closer to ladders, ceilings, and equipment.
  • Accessory system. Milwaukee BOLT visors, face shields, and lamp mounts attach to Milwaukee helmets and hard hats, so check each title for fit.

Hard Hats FAQ

Should I buy a hard hat or a safety helmet?

A traditional hard hat is fine for general site work where the main risk is something falling from above. A Type 2 safety helmet adds side impact protection and usually a chin strap, which suits work at height, on ladders, and around moving equipment.

Can I work near electrical lines in a vented hard hat?

No. The vented shells in this collection are Class C, which means no electrical protection. For electrical work, choose a Class E or Class G hard hat, such as the Milwaukee full brim Class E models or the Klein KONSTRUCT Class G hard hat.
