Makita Sanders / Polishers
Makita Sanders and Polishers for Wood, Drywall, and Paint
This collection groups Makita surface prep tools in one place. Alongside the full sander range sit two corded 7 inch polishers, the 9227C and the 9237CX3, for buffing paint, gelcoat, and other finishes. On the sanding side, choose belt sanders for flattening, random orbit sanders for general smoothing, sheet sanders for corners, the XLS01T for walls and ceilings, and the GV5010 disc sander. Cordless models run on 18V LXT or 40V max XGT batteries.
What to Look For
- Sanding or polishing. Sanders cut the surface with abrasives. Polishers spin pads and compound to bring up a shine.
- Speed control. Lower polishing speeds reduce the risk of burning paint at edges.
- Job size. Wide belt and 6 inch orbital sanders cover big surfaces. Detail sanders reach tight spots.

Makita Sanders / Polishers FAQ
Can I polish a car with a Makita sander?
A random orbit sander with a soft pad can do light polishing, but a rotary polisher such as the 9227C or 9237CX3 is built for compounding and buffing. It gives more control over speed and heat on paint.
What warranty applies to these tools?
Makita's 3-year limited warranty applies to the cordless lithium-ion sanders here, plus their batteries and chargers. The corded polishers and corded sanders carry 1 year. Coverage is repair or replacement at Makita's option.
