Mixers / Stirrers

Paddle Mixers for Mud, Mortar, and Thinset

Mixers turn a bucket of drywall compound, thinset, mortar, or paint into an even batch faster than a drill with a paddle. This collection includes the Milwaukee M18 FUEL mud mixer with 180-degree handle, DeWALT FlexVolt 60V MAX mixer/drill with E-Clutch and dual handle paddle mixer, Makita 18V LXT and 40V max XGT 1/2 inch mixers, the Bosch GBM9-16 corded mixer, and the Festool MX 1200 EEF with M14 spiral, disc, and CS mixer paddles and an ErgoFix adapter.

What to Look For

  • Batch size. Dual handle mixers control torque in full buckets of heavy material.
  • Paddle type. Spiral paddles lift heavy mortars; disc paddles suit thinner materials such as paint and self-leveling compound.
  • Clutch. An electronic clutch such as DeWALT E-Clutch limits kickback if the paddle catches.
  • Power source. Cordless mixers skip the cord near water; corded mixers suit long days on a tile crew.

Mixers / Stirrers FAQ

Do I need a mixer or will a drill work?

A drill handles small batches of compound. For full buckets of thinset or mortar, a dedicated mixer with a side or dual handle gives more control and less strain on the motor and your wrists.

Do Festool mixer paddles fit other mixers?

Festool paddles use an M14 thread. They fit mixers with an M14 spindle; check your mixer before buying.
