Pneumatic Grinders

Pneumatic Die Grinders, Angle Grinders, and Air Polishers

Pneumatic grinders handle weld cleanup, porting, deburring, and surface prep wherever shop air is available. Most of this collection is Jet: 1/4" die grinders in light, pro, and heavy-duty grades, extended and low speed versions, a 1/8" micro air grinder, and angle grinders from 4" to 7". DeWALT adds a pneumatic straight die grinder, an angle die grinder, and a cut-off tool. Mirka rounds it out with the MR-30 3" rotary polisher and the MRAP-30 3" angled polisher for small spot repairs.

What to Look For

  • Duty rating. Jet labels its air tools Light-Duty, Pro-Duty, and Heavy-Duty. Match the grade to how many hours a day the tool will run.
  • Collet or wheel size. Die grinders take 1/4" or 1/8" shank burrs and stones. Angle grinders range from 4" to 7" wheels for faster stock removal.
  • Reach and speed. Extended die grinders reach into castings and frames, and the low speed model suits larger abrasives and polishing.
  • Head style. Straight grinders work in line with your arm. Angle die grinders and angle polishers reach surfaces at a right angle.

Pneumatic Grinders FAQ

Die grinder or angle grinder?

A die grinder spins small burrs, stones, and cut-off discs for detail work, porting, and tight spots. An angle grinder drives larger wheels and flap discs to remove weld beads and rust across wider surfaces. Many fabrication shops keep both on the air line.

Can a pneumatic grinder use cordless grinder wheels?

Often yes, if the wheel diameter, arbor, and rated speed match the tool. Always check that the wheel speed rating meets or exceeds the grinder speed, and fit the correct guard before use.
