Simpson Strong-Tie Nails
Simpson Strong-Tie Connector, Siding, and Roofing Nails
Simpson Strong-Tie nails fall into two groups. Strong-Drive SCN connector nails, smooth-shank and SCNR ring-shank, are made for hangers, straps, and ties in bright and hot-dip galvanized finishes. Stainless nails in Type 304 and 316 cover siding, roofing, fiber-cement, and shake and shingle, in loose packs by the pound and in wire coil, tape, and adhesive collated strips. Collated 15 and 16 gauge finishing nails and Swan Secure ring nails round it out. Zinc Nailon pin-drive anchors are also listed.
What to Look For
- Application. Use connector nails in metal connectors. Use siding or roofing nails for cladding.
- Steel grade. Choose Type 316 near salt water. Type 304 suits most other exterior work.
- Collation. Match collation type and angle to your nailer, such as 15 degree wire coil.
- Shank. Ring shanks hold better in siding, roofing, and decking.

Simpson Strong-Tie Nails FAQ
Can I use framing nails in joist hangers?
Use the connector nail Simpson lists for that hanger. SCN connector nails, such as the N8DHDG and 16DHDG, are sized for the holes in Simpson connectors. Collated framing nails often do not match the required diameter.
Why use stainless nails for siding?
Stainless nails do not rust or stain wood siding, cedar shakes, or fiber-cement. Painted white stainless siding nails blend with light siding.
