Which finish do I need: galvanized, ZMAX, or stainless?
Standard galvanized parts suit dry interior framing. ZMAX and hot-dip galvanized parts suit treated lumber and outdoor work. Type 304 and 316 stainless suit coastal and other corrosive sites. Use fasteners with the same finish as the connector.
Which fasteners go in a Simpson connector?
Use the nails or screws Simpson specifies for that connector. SCN connector nails and SD connector screws are made for hangers, straps, and ties. Drywall screws and deck screws are not a substitute.
Face-mount or top-flange hanger?
A face-mount hanger nails to the face of the header and suits most decks and floors. A top-flange hanger hooks over the top of the header, which helps when you cannot reach the face or are hanging engineered joists.
