Splinter Guards
Splinter Guards for Track Saws and Jigsaws
A splinter guard is a zero-clearance strip that supports the wood fibers at the cut line so veneer and laminate do not chip. This collection covers three types: guide rail strips from Festool, Makita, and Mafell, including 55-inch, 118-inch, and 197-inch lengths; saw-mounted guards for the Festool TS 55, TS 60, and TS 75 and the Kreg Adaptive Cutting System; and jigsaw inserts for the Festool PS300, PSB300, and Carvex.
What to Look For
- Where it mounts. Rail strips, saw-mounted guards, and jigsaw inserts are not interchangeable.
- Saw model. Festool lists separate guards for the TS 55, TS 60, and TS 75. Buy the one for your saw.
- Length. Rail strips must match or exceed the rail length.
- Pack count. Jigsaw inserts come in 5- and 20-packs. Shops that cut laminate often go through them fast.

Splinter Guards FAQ
When should I replace a splinter guard?
Replace it when the edge is chipped, torn, or no longer meets the blade. A fresh guard is trimmed by the first cut, which sets the exact cut line.
Do Makita and Festool rail strips interchange?
Buy the strip made for your rail brand. Makita replacement strips here are listed for Makita guide rails, and Festool and Mafell strips for their own rails.
