Straight Jaw Pliers
Straight Jaw Locking, Groove-Joint, and Long Reach Pliers
Straight jaw pliers have flat, parallel gripping faces that put full face contact on nuts, flat stock, and sheet edges. Milwaukee covers most of this collection with straight-jaw pliers from 6 to 20 inches, a 6 and 10-inch set, 13-inch long reach pliers, and Torque Lock and locking pliers. DeWALT pushlock pliers, Irwin Vise-Grip 7R and 10R locking pliers, GrooveLock and groove-joint pliers, and Knipex grip, needle-nose, and snipe nose pliers round it out.
What to Look For
- Locking or adjustable. Locking pliers clamp hands-free. Pushlock and GrooveLock pliers adjust jaw width with a button.
- Length. Longer handles give more leverage and reach on large fittings.

Straight Jaw Pliers FAQ
Straight jaw or curved jaw locking pliers?
Use straight jaws to clamp flat stock, weld tabs, sheet metal, and square nuts. Curved jaws have more contact on round pipe and rounded bolt heads.
What is push-button adjustment?
On pushlock and GrooveLock pliers, you press a button to slide the lower jaw to another width, then release to lock it. It is faster than a slip joint and does not slip under load.
