String Trimmers
Cordless String Trimmers and Attachment Systems
String trimmers here are cordless, either dedicated trimmers or power heads that take attachments. DeWALT offers 20V MAX 13-inch straight and 14-inch folding trimmers, a trimmer and blower combo, and the 60V MAX FLEXVOLT DCST970. Milwaukee builds on M18 FUEL QUIK-LOK, with edger, brush cutter, pole saw, bristle brush, and extension attachments. DeWALT sells edger, brush cutter, pole saw, and articulating hedge trimmer attachments. Makita adds 18V LXT and 18V X2 (36V) LXT trimmers and a grass shear. Trimmer line is here too.
What to Look For
- Battery platform. Stay with the platform you own: DeWALT 20V MAX or 60V MAX, Milwaukee M18, or Makita LXT.
- Cutting swath. Wider swaths cover more ground per pass. Smaller ones are easier to control along edges.
- Attachment capability. QUIK-LOK and DeWALT attachment-capable power heads replace several single tools.
- Line size. Use the diameter your trimmer head lists, such as .080 or .095 inch.

String Trimmers FAQ
Attachment system or dedicated trimmer?
If you also edge, prune limbs, or clear brush, an attachment system like Milwaukee QUIK-LOK runs all of them from one power head. If you only trim, a dedicated trimmer is lighter and simpler.
Straight or folding shaft?
Straight shafts reach under shrubs and decks. The DeWALT DCST922 folding trimmer stores in less space in a truck or small garage.
