23-Gauge Pin Nailers: Cordless and Pneumatic
Pin nailers shoot thin headless pins that hold glued trim, small moldings, and veneer while leaving a hole you barely see. Nearly every tool here is 23-gauge. Cordless choices include the Milwaukee M12, DeWALT 20V MAX ATOMIC, Makita 18V LXT, 40V max XGT, and 12V max CXT pinners, and the Grex GCP650. Pneumatic models come from Grex, DeWALT, Makita, Metabo HPT, Porter Cable, and Bostitch. The Senco FinishPro 21LXP is a 21-gauge micro pinner.
What to Look For
- Maximum pin length. Models here top out at 1-3/16, 1-3/8, 1-3/4, or 2 inches. Longer capacity holds thicker trim.
- Lockout. Dry fire lockout, on models like the Grex P650L and P635L, stops firing when the magazine is empty.
- Cordless or air. Cordless models skip the hose. Pneumatic models are lighter in the hand.
- Edge guide. The Grex P650LXE includes one for consistent placement along edges.

Pin Nailers FAQ
Do pin nails hold without glue?
Not well. Headless pins have little pull-out strength. They hold parts in place while glue dries, or tack light trim and returns. For structural holding power, use a brad or finish nailer.
What pin length should I buy?
Pick a pin about twice the thickness of the piece you are attaching. Keep a few lengths on hand, and check the minimum and maximum lengths listed for your nailer.
