Overview
The Klein Tools Auto-Loading Retractable Utility Knife with Dual-Sided Blade Magazine (44308) keeps ten blades inside the handle and loads them for you. This is a retractable utility knife designed for drywall, roofing, carpet and general jobsite cutting, with a dual-sided blade magazine that stores five standard utility blades and five hook blades.
The magazine is what makes it different. Instead of opening the knife and digging spare blades out of the handle, you press the quick-release switch to eject the magazine, flip it to the other side to change blade type, and slide it back in. Standard blades on one side, hook blades on the other.
Changing a dull blade is one-handed. The slide button automatically reloads a fresh blade in a single motion, which keeps you cutting instead of stopping to disassemble the tool on a ladder or roof.
Smooth slide-action control extends and retracts the blade for fast, precise cuts, and retracting it keeps the edge covered between cuts. Blades are steel, about 2-7/16" (6.1 cm) long and 3/4" (1.9 cm) wide.
The knife has a black plastic handle over a steel structure, measures about 6-13/16" (17.3 cm) long closed, 1-3/4" (4.4 cm) wide and 1-1/16" (2.6 cm) tall, and weighs 6.4 oz (181 g).
Who should buy it: drywall hangers, roofers, flooring and carpet installers, and electricians or general contractors who switch between straight scoring and hook cuts through the day.

Pro Tip
Keep the hook side of the magazine for roofing and carpet only. Saving those blades for the jobs that need them means the standard side handles everyday scoring and you are not burning hook blades on drywall.
Tool Nut's Take
The Knife That Reloads Itself
The Klein Tools Auto-Loading Retractable Utility Knife (44308) carries ten blades, two blade types, and reloads one-handed.
- Who it's for: Trades who change blades often and switch between scoring and hook cuts.
- Why it stands out: A flip-over magazine with standard and hook blades and a one-handed auto-reload.
- Worth knowing: At 6.4 oz it is heavier than a basic utility knife; that is the price of carrying ten blades inside.
