SAE coverage is 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 9/16", 5/8", 11/16" and 3/4", and metric runs 8 through 19 mm in 1 mm steps (8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 mm). That continuous metric run matters: no missing 9 mm or 11 mm when you need it. Each size comes deep and shallow, so you pick the socket for the fastener instead of making do.
Deep-well sockets handle recessed fasteners and nuts on long bolts or threaded rod.
