Overview
The Klein Tools Pin Moisture Meter (ET150) is a handheld pin-type moisture meter for wood and common building materials. This is a moisture meter designed for finding leaks, tracking water intrusion and checking flood damage, and for verifying lumber and drywall moisture before you close up a wall or install flooring.
Two stainless steel pins press into the material and measure moisture content. Klein provides calibrated modes for hardwood (0% to 33%), softwood (0% to 55%), drywall (0% to 100% relative) and building materials (0% to 100% relative). Accuracy is rated at plus or minus 2% on wood, while drywall and masonry give relative readings, which is how pin meters are best used on those materials: compare suspect areas to known dry areas.
The display is a color-coded backlit LCD with 0.1% resolution that shows low, medium and high moisture as an immediate visual cue, backed by audible alerts. An integrated work light helps when you are reading under a sink or in a dark crawlspace.
Klein designed the cap to do double duty. It protects the pins during storage, stays with the meter on an elastic tether, and its top functions as a calibration checker. The pins are replaceable, and two spares come in the box.
The meter is slim and light: about 6-1/2" (16.5 cm) long, 3 oz (85 g), with a pocket clip. It runs on two AAA batteries (included), operates from 50°F to 104°F (10°C to 40°C) and is drop rated to 6.5 ft (2 m).
Who should buy it: remodelers, flooring installers, home inspectors, restoration crews, plumbers tracking a leak and woodworkers checking stock before a build.

Pro Tip
On drywall and masonry the reading is relative, so take a baseline in an area you know is dry, then compare the suspect spot. A big jump over the baseline tells you more than the raw number.
