The set is built around a forged steel QUIK-LOK arbor with a 7/16-in. shank and a 1/4-in. x 4-in. high speed steel pilot bit. Three threaded adapters stay on the hole saws, so changing sizes is a push-and-lock move instead of threading saws on and off the arbor. Milwaukee rates the system at 3 to 6 times faster hole saw changes than a standard arbor, with faster, easier plug removal.
Each adapter covers a range. The Small Thread Adapter fits hole saws from 9/16 in. to 1-3/16 in. with 1/2-in. x 20 threads. The Large Thread Adapter fits hole saws from 1-1/4 in. to 2 in. with 5/8-in. x 18 threads. The reusable Large Thread Pin Adapter handles 1-1/4 in. up to 6-7/8 in. without thread stripping, binding, or spin-off.
Because the adapters are threaded, the system keeps hole enlargement capability from 1-1/4 in. to 6-7/8 in. That lets you open up an existing hole to a larger size without losing the pilot. BIG HAWG and deep cup hole saws need the 49-56-9300 pilot bit and 49-56-7575 adapter, sold separately.
This arbor set is for trades that drill a lot of holes in a lot of sizes: electrical rough-in, plumbing and drain lines, HVAC penetrations, and cabinet or framing work.
