Overview
The Mirka Gold 3-in. P180 hook and loop sanding disc (model 23-608-180) is a no-hole, grip-backed abrasive disc sold 50 to a box. This is a 3-in. sanding disc designed for random orbital, detail and spot sanding on wood, paint, primer, filler and plastics. Mirka describes Gold as a durable, multi-use abrasive for high-speed sanding, and it is the company's benchmark general-purpose paper.
The disc uses aluminum oxide grain on C-weight paper, bonded resin over resin with a semi-open coat and a stearate top coating. In practice, the semi-open coat leaves space between grains so dust has somewhere to go, and the stearate keeps soft material like paint and filler from smearing into the abrasive and forming pills. The result is a disc that keeps cutting longer before you toss it.
At P180 this disc sits in the middle of a typical sanding sequence. It follows P80 or P120 to remove coarse scratches on bare wood, it is a common final grit before stain on many hardwoods, and it is used to smooth body filler and feather-edge paint before primer.
The 3-in. size fits small random orbital and air sanders used for spot repair, edges, curved parts and tight areas where a 5-in. or 6-in. disc is too big. The no-hole design means it is not built for through-pad dust extraction; it suits non-vac sanders or work where extraction isn't in play.
Mirka lists Gold 3-in. discs as suitable for hardwood, soft and resinous wood, veneer, chipboard, plastics and synthetic materials, glass fiber, primer, paint sanding and paint removal, body filler, plaster and filler, lacquers, non-ferrous metal and copper, brass and bronze. Automotive refinishers, woodworkers and marine techs all run it.

Tool Nut's Take
The Standard for a Reason
The Mirka Gold 3-in. P180 disc is the dependable middle step for small sanders, and it doesn't gum up when the work gets messy.
- Who it's for: Body shops, woodworkers and detailers running 3-in. random orbital or air sanders.
- Why it stands out: Anti-clog semi-open coat and stearate on durable C-weight paper, in a 50-disc box.
- Worth knowing: No dust holes. If you sand with a vacuum-equipped 3-in. sander, a multi-hole or net disc will pull dust better.
