Overview
The Stabila 41816 is a two-piece Type R 300 R-Beam level set with a 16-in. and a 48-in. level. This is a heavy-duty spirit level set designed for demanding jobsite conditions in bricklaying, carpentry, concrete, window fitting and landscape construction, where a level gets dropped, stepped on and dragged through debris.
The R 300 is named for its R-shaped aluminum profile. The five-chamber design resists torsion, so the frame stays straight and true even after rough handling. The extra-wide measuring surface gives the level a stable footprint that will not roll or tip over on a narrow sill, a form board or a course of block.
Unlike a standard box level, the R-Beam has three accurate marking and cutting edges, so you can draw a straight line or guide a utility knife directly off the frame. A handrail with a finger groove runs the full length of the level for a secure grip in any position, and the shape of the profile lets you use the level to screed or smooth off construction debris.
Each level carries one horizontal vial and two vertical vials, with a continuous bridge over the horizontal vial for protection. Highly transparent acrylic vials make readings easy. Accuracy is ±1/32 in. over 72 in. in both normal and reverse position, measured off two coated measuring surfaces. Removable, shock-absorbing two-component end caps with slip stoppers protect the frame and hold the level in place against a wall while you mark.
The 16-in. length handles short runs, sills, forms and tight spaces, while the 48-in. is the everyday length for walls, courses and framing. This set is built for masons, concrete finishers, carpenters, window installers and landscape contractors who are hard on their tools and want a level that survives it.

Pro Tip
Use the profile, not just the vials. The R-Beam shape is designed so you can drag it across a surface to smooth off construction debris, then flip it to read level, saving a trip for a separate screed on small pours and patches.
Tool Nut's Take
The Level for People Who Are Hard on Levels
The Stabila 41816 pairs a 16-in. and 48-in. R 300 R-Beam level, built with a twist-resistant profile and a wide base that will not tip.
- Who it's for: Masons, concrete finishers, window installers and landscapers who need a level that takes a beating.
- Why it stands out: The R profile, three marking edges and a full-length handrail are things a box beam simply does not offer.
- Worth knowing: The R-Beam is wider and shaped differently than a box level, so it will not fit every level holster or a box-beam-only case.
Common Questions
- What makes an R-Beam different from a box level? The R-shaped five-chamber profile resists twisting, gives a wider and more stable measuring surface, and adds three marking and cutting edges and a full-length handrail.
- How accurate are R 300 levels? ±1/32 in. over 72 in. in both normal and reverse position.
- How many vials does each level have? One horizontal and two vertical vials.
