Box Wrenches
Box Wrenches: Ratcheting, Offset, and Insulated
Box wrenches wrap all six points of a nut or bolt, so they grip tight fasteners without rounding them. This collection leans toward electrical and line work: Klein Tools fully reversible ratcheting offset box wrenches and a 7-piece ratcheting set, Klein lineman's ratcheting and insulating box wrenches, Milwaukee 2-in-1 and 4-in-1 insulated lineman's ratcheting box wrenches, and a Knipex 1000V insulated offset box wrench. DeWALT offset double box sets and large Wiha inch box wrenches cover shop and mechanical work.
What to Look For
- Ratcheting or fixed. Ratcheting heads speed up long runs of thread. Fixed box ends take more torque on stuck fasteners.
- Offset. Offset heads lift your knuckles off the work surface and clear obstructions.
- Insulation. Insulated lineman's and 1000V wrenches are made for work near energized equipment.
- SAE or metric. Match the set to the fasteners you see most. DeWALT offers metric offset sets here.

Box Wrenches FAQ
Why do lineman's box wrenches have multiple sizes in one head?
Lineman's 2-in-1 and 4-in-1 wrenches put several common utility hardware sizes in one tool. That cuts down what you carry up a pole or in a bucket.
Box wrench or combination wrench?
A double box wrench has a closed end on both sides for maximum grip. A combination wrench pairs one box end with an open end, which slips onto fasteners from the side when a box end will not fit.
