Erection Wrenches
Klein Erection Wrenches by Bolt Size and Nut Type
Erection wrenches are open-end wrenches with a long tapered handle, used by ironworkers and steel erectors to turn nuts and line up bolt holes. This collection is the Klein Tools lineup. Wrenches are sized by bolt diameter from 1/2 to 1 inch and by nut type: U.S. Regular Nut, U.S. Heavy Nut, and Utility Nut. Two 1/2-inch Regular Nut versions are listed, with 3/4-inch and 13/16-inch nominal openings.
What to Look For
- Bolt size. Klein labels these by the bolt they serve, not by the jaw opening. Start with the bolt diameter on your drawings.
- Nut type. A heavy hex nut is larger across the flats than a regular nut on the same bolt, so the wrenches are not interchangeable.
- Utility nuts. Utility Nut is a third size standard. Match the nut type in the title to the hardware on site.

Erection Wrenches FAQ
What is the tapered handle for?
The pointed end works like a drift pin. Push it through two misaligned holes to pull the steel into line, then insert the bolt and flip the wrench to turn the nut.
How many sizes does a crew need?
Carry one wrench for each bolt size and nut type in the connection schedule. A 3/4-inch Regular Nut wrench will not fit a 3/4-inch heavy nut, so check both before the steel arrives.
