What to Look For
- Starting grit. 40 to 80 grit removes stock and old finish. 100 to 180 grit smooths. 220 and up prepares for finish.
- Pack size. 10-packs for testing a grit, 50-packs for the grits you go through most.
- Flat backing. Use a block under the sheet on flat panels so pressure stays even.

For most wood finishing, keep 80, 120, 180, and 220 grit. Add 320 and 400 grit if you sand between finish coats. Buy 50-packs of the grits you finish with and 10-packs of the rest.
What can I use for curved parts?
Sheets work best flat. For curves and mouldings, use Granat abrasive sponges or tear a length of Vlies from a sanding roll.
