Generator Accessories
Transfer Switches, Generator Cords, and Covers
Generator accessories connect a generator to your home safely and keep it running in bad weather. Generac fills most of this collection: automatic transfer switches with built-in load centers, Smart Switch models from 100 to 400 amps, the PWRView automatic transfer switch, and HomeLink manual transfer switch kits at 30 and 50 amps. DuroMax adds 10-gauge and 12-gauge extension power cords in single or triple tap and portable generator dust guard covers. A Powermate inverter parallel kit is here too.
What to Look For
- Service size. Match a service rated switch to your main panel rating, such as 100, 150, 200, 300, or 400 amps.
- Automatic or manual. Automatic switches pair with standby generators. Manual switches and kits suit portable generators.
- Cord gauge and length. A 10-gauge cord carries more current over distance than a 12-gauge cord. DuroMax sells 25, 50, and 100-foot lengths.
- Outlets. Triple tap cords run several loads from one generator outlet.

Generator Accessories FAQ
Automatic or manual transfer switch?
An automatic switch senses an outage and moves your circuits to a standby generator without you. A manual switch, like the Generac HomeLink 30 and 50 amp kits, has you start a portable generator and flip the circuits over yourself. Have a licensed electrician install either one.
Single tap or triple tap cord?
A single tap cord ends in one outlet for one large load. A triple tap ends in three outlets, so you can run a refrigerator, lights, and a phone charger from one run back to the generator.
