Milwaukee Rotary Hammer

Choosing a Milwaukee Rotary Hammer by Bit System

A Milwaukee rotary hammer drills concrete and masonry with a hammering action that a hammer drill can't match. The first choice is the bit system. SDS Plus models, from the 2412 M12 1/2" to the 2915 and 2715 M18 FUEL 1-1/8", cover anchor holes and smaller through-holes. SDS MAX models, including the M18 FUEL 2918 and 2718 at 1-3/4" and the corded 5546-21 and 5342-21, handle large holes and chipping. The 5316-21 uses a spline shank.

What to Look For

  • Hole range. 5/8" and 1" SDS Plus tools suit anchors. 1-1/8" SDS Plus and SDS MAX tools suit larger holes.
  • Handle style. D-handle models like the 2613 and 5262-21 give a two-hand grip for overhead drilling.
  • Dust control. DE kits pair the hammer with a dust extractor.
  • Cord or battery. Corded models run all day. Cordless models go where power is far away.

Milwaukee Rotary Hammer FAQ

SDS Plus or SDS MAX?

SDS Plus is lighter and covers most anchor and through-hole work up to 1-1/8". SDS MAX takes larger, heavier bits for big holes, core work, and chiseling. The two bit shanks are not interchangeable, so buy bits to match the hammer.

What warranty covers Milwaukee rotary hammers?

Most Milwaukee power tools, including M18 and M12 tools, carry a 5-year limited warranty. Registration is not required. Coverage applies to the original purchaser from an authorized Milwaukee distributor, and some products carry shorter terms.
