Rip Saws
Rip Saws and Cabinet Table Saws for Shop Ripping
Ripping boards to width is the main job of a table saw, and this collection is built around heavy cabinet saws for that work. Powermatic PM1000, PM2000, 2000B, and 3000B saws make up most of it, with Accu-Fence or ArmorGlide fences and 30-inch or 50-inch rip options. Jet Deluxe Xacta saws come in 3HP and 5HP versions, some with downdraft tables. The SawStop Professional Cabinet Saw with a 36-inch T-Glide fence and the Laguna 12-inch straight line rip saw round it out.
What to Look For
- Motor and power. Check HP, phase, and voltage in each title. 3HP and 5HP saws here list 230V, and 7.5HP models are three phase.
- Rip capacity. A 30-inch fence fits smaller shops. A 50-inch or 52-inch fence rips full sheets in half.
- Built-in router station. Some Powermatic packages add a router lift in the extension wing to save floor space.
- Straight line rip saw. The Laguna feeds stock past the blade on a track for production ripping of rough lumber.

Rip Saws FAQ
Single phase or three phase?
Most home and small shops have single phase power, so look for 1PH in the title. Three phase 3PH saws suit commercial shops with that service. Check voltage and the circuit before ordering.
What blade works best for ripping?
Use a rip blade with fewer, larger teeth to clear chips in long grain cuts. Find options in table saw blades. A combination blade is a fair compromise if you rip and crosscut on the same saw.
