Rules
Woodworking Rules, Straight Edges, and Folding Rules
Rules in this collection are mostly precision woodworking rules for layout and setup. Woodpeckers makes up most of it: woodworking rules from 12 inches to 49.5 inches, metric precision rules in 300, 600, and 900 mm, aluminum straight edge rules, 6-inch and 12-inch edge rules, Paolini pocket rules, and the Story Stick PRO with caliper arms. Incra offers the T-RULE06 marking T-rule and a 12-inch pro rule set. Stabila and Wiha supply folding rules for site measuring.
What to Look For
- Inch, metric, or both. Pick the scale that matches your plans. Paolini 6-inch/150mm pocket rules carry both.
- Rigid or folding. Rigid rules give accurate layout on the bench. Folding rules reach longer distances and fold into a pocket.
- Straight edge use. An aluminum straight edge rule checks flatness and guides marking knives.
- Stops and add-ons. Rule stops clamp to a rule to repeat a measurement for marking.

Rules FAQ
What is a story stick used for?
A story stick records repeated measurements, such as cabinet heights or shelf spacing, so you transfer them without reading numbers. The Story Stick PRO comes in 24-inch and 48-inch lengths with optional caliper arms.
Rule or tape measure for woodworking?
Use a rule for setup and layout at the bench, where a flat scale is easier to read. Use a tape measure for long distances and rough lumber.
