Spindle Sanders
Oscillating Spindle Sanders for Curves and Edges
An oscillating spindle sander smooths curved and inside edges that a belt or disc sander cannot reach. The spindle spins and moves up and down to spread wear across the sleeve. Benchtop options include the Jet JBOS-5, Triton TSPS450 and tilting TSPS370, Shop Fox W1831, Rockwell RK9011, Delta B.O.S.S., Rikon 50-300, and Laguna SS|14. Floor models include the Jet JOSS-S and JOVS-10, Powermatic OSS10, Delta 31-484, Shop Fox W1686, and Laguna SS|24T.
What to Look For
- Benchtop or floor. Benchtop units fit small shops. Floor models add mass, larger tables, and more power.
- Tilting table. A tilting table, like the Triton TSPS370 or Delta 31-483, sands beveled curves.
- Belt option. The Triton TSPST450 swaps in a belt for straight and convex edges.
- Spindle range. Check which spindle and sleeve sizes come with the machine.

Spindle Sanders FAQ
Why does the spindle oscillate?
The up-and-down stroke spreads wear across the full sleeve and keeps the abrasive from cutting grooves into the work. It also runs cooler and leaves a smoother edge.
Is there a portable spindle sander?
Yes. The Triton TSPSP650 is a portable unit that can be taken to the work, which helps on large pieces that are hard to move across a table.
