Stripping / Crimping Pliers
Wire Strippers and Crimping Pliers for Electrical Work
Stripping and crimping pliers remove insulation cleanly and, on multi-tools, crimp terminals and cut wire. Klein Tools leads this collection with self-adjusting, Klein-Kurve, solid and stranded strippers, the 1010 multi-tool, and long-nose pliers with stripping and crimping features. Irwin Vise-Grip adds self-adjusting and stripper/crimper/cutter tools. Knipex brings a 1000V insulated forged stripper, ErgoStrip PV stripper, and diagonal cutters with stripper. Wiha adds stripping pliers rated 20-10 AWG.
What to Look For
- Gauge range. Notched strippers list an AWG range. Pick one that covers the wire you run most.
- Solid or stranded. Klein makes separate strippers for solid and stranded copper.
- Self-adjusting. Self-adjusting strippers set themselves to the wire size for fast production work.
- Insulated. The Knipex 13 78 8 is 1000V insulated for work near live circuits.

Stripping and Crimping Pliers FAQ
Self-adjusting or notched stripper?
Self-adjusting strippers like the Klein 11061 and Irwin WS8 are fastest across mixed wire sizes. Notched strippers give more control and a cleaner strip on one known gauge.
Can one tool strip and crimp?
Yes. Multi-tools like the Klein 1010 and Irwin CM8 strip, cut, and crimp insulated and non-insulated terminals. For high-volume or ratcheting crimps, see dedicated crimpers.
