Makita offers Quiet Series compressors from 1 to 3 gallons, MAC700, MAC2400, and MAC5200 Big Bore models, and the MAC5501G gas compressor. Cordless options include the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 2-gallon and Metabo HPT 36V 2-gallon. Porter Cable, Makita inflators, and a Rolair auxiliary tank are also listed.

What to Look For

  • Tank and output. 1 to 3 gallon tanks feed pin, brad, and finish nailers. Framing and multiple tools need larger tanks and more output.
  • Noise. Quiet models such as the Rolair JC10PLUS and AB5PLUS list dB ratings in the title for indoor work.
  • Oil-free or oil-lubed. Oil-free compressors need less upkeep. Oil-lubricated pumps generally hold up better to long duty cycles.
  • Power. Cordless compressors work where outlets are scarce. Gas models run on open sites.

Compressors FAQ

What size compressor do I need for a finish nailer?

A 1 to 3 gallon compressor handles one finish, brad, or pin nailer. Step up to a larger tank or a Big Bore model if you run a framing nailer or two nailers at once.

Is a cordless compressor worth it?

For punch lists and trim work away from power, yes. The Milwaukee M18 FUEL and Metabo HPT 36V compressors run nailers without a cord. For all-day framing, a corded or gas unit keeps up better.
