The Makita XFD17Z 18V LXT Brushless 1/2" Driver-Drill is a cordless driver-drill, sold as a bare tool, designed for drilling and driving in wood, metal and plastic. It's the right buy if you already own Makita 18V LXT batteries and want a compact brushless drill without paying for another battery and charger.
The Makita-built brushless motor delivers 580 in-lbs of max torque. A variable 2-speed transmission (0-500 and 0-1,900 RPM) covers everything from spade bits and hole saws in low gear to fast pilot holes in high gear. Drilling capacity is 1/2" in steel and 1-1/2" in wood.
Drive mode and a 20-position clutch let you match torque to the fastener, so cabinet, trim and drywall screws seat cleanly. The 1/2" keyless chuck is engineered to prevent bit slippage and improve bit retention under load.
At 6-9/16" long and 3.7 lbs with a 3.0Ah battery, the XFD17Z balances well and fits between studs. A rubberized soft grip and L.E.D. light add comfort and visibility, and Extreme Protection Technology (XPT) improves dust and water resistance.
The electronically controlled brushless motor gives up to 50% more run time per charge than a brushed motor, and Star Protection Computer Controls protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating when used with star-marked 18V LXT batteries.
