Overview
The Makita XPH17Z 18V LXT Compact Brushless 1/2" Hammer Driver-Drill is a cordless hammer drill, sold as a bare tool, designed for drilling in wood, metal and masonry and for driving fasteners. It's the tool-only version of the XPH17S1 kit, for Makita 18V LXT users who already have batteries and a charger.
The brushless motor delivers 580 in-lbs of max torque through a variable 2-speed transmission: 0-500 RPM for torque and 0-1,900 RPM for speed. Hammer mode runs at 0-7,500 and 0-28,500 BPM for anchor holes in brick and block. Capacity is 1/2" in steel, 1-1/2" in wood and 1/2" in masonry.
A 20-position clutch dials in torque for drive mode, so screws seat flush without stripping. The 1/2" keyless chuck holds bits securely under load.
At 6-3/4" long and 3.7 lbs with a 3.0Ah battery, the XPH17Z is compact enough for tight spaces and comfortable overhead. A rubberized soft grip and L.E.D. light round it out.
The electronically controlled brushless motor delivers up to 50% more run time per charge, and Extreme Protection Technology (XPT) improves dust and water resistance in harsh conditions. Star Protection Computer Controls protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating when used with star-marked 18V LXT batteries.
Who should buy this: Makita 18V LXT owners who want a compact brushless hammer drill for anchors and general drilling without buying another battery and charger.
