Flap Wheels

DeWALT Flap Wheels by Mount and Size

Flap wheels are radial abrasive wheels for cleaning, blending, and finishing metal, especially inside curves, tubes, and contoured parts. Every listing in this collection is DeWALT. Small wheels from 1 to 4 inches in diameter are mounted on a 1/4-inch shank for die grinders. Threaded 4-1/2 x 3/4 x 5/8-11 wheels fit angle grinders. Larger 6-1/2-inch wheels in 1 and 2 inch widths have a 1-inch arbor. Grits run from 40 to 240, in HP and finishing lines.

What to Look For

  • Mount. Shank-mounted wheels go in a die grinder collet. Threaded wheels spin onto a 5/8-11 grinder spindle. Arbor wheels need a machine with a 1-inch arbor.
  • Width. Narrow wheels reach into slots and tight radii. Wider wheels cover more surface per pass.
  • HP or finishing. HP wheels are built for faster stock removal. Finishing wheels in 60 to 150 grit leave a smoother surface.
  • Speed rating. Make sure the tool's speed does not exceed the wheel's rating.

Flap Wheels FAQ

Flap wheel or flap disc?

A flap disc works face-on and suits flat surfaces and welds. A flap wheel works on its outer edge, so it follows curves, cleans inside pipe, and blends contours a disc cannot reach.

Can I use shank-mounted flap wheels in a drill?

They are designed for die grinders, which run at higher speeds. A drill will turn them but cuts much more slowly. Never exceed the wheel's rated speed.
