Flap Discs
Flap Discs for Grinding, Blending, and Finishing Metal
Flap discs remove stock and smooth the surface in the same pass, which makes them the standard angle grinder abrasive for weld blending and surface prep. This collection covers Diablo Steel Demon discs, including corner-edge, fine-grit stripping and finishing, speed hub, and X-LOCK versions, alongside DeWALT XP, HP, and zirconia discs, Makita X-LOCK 3-packs, and Bosch X-Lock discs. Sizes run from 4-1/2 to 7 inches, and grits from 36 to 120. A DeWALT guard for jumbo flap discs is also listed.
What to Look For
- Type 27 or Type 29. Type 27 discs are flat for blending on flat surfaces. Type 29 discs are angled for faster removal on edges and welds.
- Mounting. Choose 7/8-inch arbor discs, 5/8-11 threaded hub discs, or X-LOCK discs to match your grinder.
- Grit. 36 to 40 grit removes welds. 60 grit is the all-round step. 80 to 120 grit finishes before paint.
- Grain. Zirconia and premium blends suit heavy pressure and harder steel.

Flap Discs FAQ
Will X-LOCK flap discs fit my regular grinder?
Several Diablo and Makita X-LOCK discs are labeled for X-LOCK and all 7/8-inch arbor grinders, so they mount either way. Check the title. Bosch X-Lock titles name only X-Lock, so confirm fit on the product page.
What does a corner-edge flap disc do?
The Diablo corner-edge disc has abrasive flaps that extend toward the edge, so it can grind into inside corners and fillet welds that a standard disc cannot reach.
