Air Filtration Units
Air Filtration Units for the Woodshop
Air filtration units are stationary shop machines that clean room air of fine dust. The range here spans Jet, Powermatic, and Rikon. Smaller shops can start with the Rikon 62-400, which runs at 300, 350, or 400 CFM. Larger spaces call for the Jet AFS-1000B, AFS-1000C, or the 1700 CFM Jet 3-speed model, the Rikon 62-1100, or Powermatic's PM1200 and PM1250 Micro-Dust units. The Laguna D|Flux III cyclone is also listed here.
What to Look For
- Airflow rating. Compare listed CFM to your room volume. Bigger and taller shops need more airflow.
- Filters. Most units pair an outer prefilter with a finer inner filter. Check replacement filter options before you buy.
- Power. The Jet AFS-850 lists 120V single phase. Confirm voltage for every unit against your outlet.
- Controls. Remote control and multiple speeds make a ceiling-hung unit easier to run day to day.

Air Filtration Units FAQ
How do I size an air filtration unit?
Find room volume in cubic feet, then compare it to the unit's CFM. A higher ratio cycles the air faster. A two-car garage shop may suit a mid-size unit, while large or tall shops may need a 1000 CFM class unit or two smaller ones.
How long should I run it after I stop cutting?
Keep it running for a while after the last cut, since fine dust stays airborne. Units with timers or remotes make this easier to manage.
