Cordless Joiners

Cordless Biscuit, Plate, and Pocket-Hole Joiners

Cordless joiners cut slots or angled holes that align and strengthen wood joints for cabinets, face frames, and panels. This small collection has three types of tool. Makita offers the 18V LXT XJP03Z and LXJP02 plate joiners, and DeWALT the DCW682B 20V MAX brushless biscuit joiner. Kreg adds the Rebel pocket-hole joiner on its 20V Ionic Drive platform, sold tool only or as a 4.0Ah kit with charger.

What to Look For

  • Joint type. Biscuit and plate joiners cut slots for edge and miter joints. Pocket-hole joiners drill angled holes for screws.
  • Platform. Makita runs on 18V LXT, DeWALT on 20V MAX, and Kreg on its own Ionic Drive batteries.
  • Tool only or kit. The Kreg kit is the choice if you have no compatible batteries yet.

Cordless Joiners FAQ

Biscuit joiner or pocket-hole joiner?

Biscuits mainly align boards during glue-up and leave no visible holes. Pocket holes use screws, so joints hold without clamps while glue dries, but the holes need to sit on a hidden face.

What is the difference between a plate joiner and a biscuit joiner?

They are the same kind of tool. Makita calls its models plate joiners and DeWALT calls its model a biscuit joiner. Both cut slots for wood biscuits.
