Drill Bits - Glass and Tile

Glass and Tile Drill Bits

Glass and tile drill bits use carbide tips ground to scrape through glazed ceramic, porcelain, and stone instead of chipping it. This collection includes Diablo Hard Tile and Stone bits and Tile and Stone bits sold individually from 1/8 to 1/2 inch and in 4 and 5-piece sets, plus Milwaukee Hard Tile and Glass bits in the same size range and a 4-piece set. Bosch and Milwaukee SDS tile chisels for removing old tile are also here.

What to Look For

  • Tile hardness. Hard Tile bits are made for porcelain and dense stone. Standard tile bits suit ceramic wall tile.
  • Size. Match the bit to your anchor or fixture. 1/4 and 5/16-inch bits cover most towel bars and grab bars.
  • Drilling mode. Turn off hammer mode. Percussion cracks glazed tile.
  • Cooling. Keep the tip cool with water and a slow speed to extend bit life.

Drill Bits - Glass and Tile FAQ

How do I keep the bit from walking on tile?

Put painter's tape over the mark, start at a slight angle to score the glaze, then bring the drill upright. Use low speed and light pressure until the tip bites.

Can these bits drill into the wall behind the tile?

Yes for drywall and wood behind the tile. For block or concrete behind tile, switch to a masonry bit once you are through the tile.
