What to Look For
- Thread. Coarse thread pocket screws suit softwood and plywood. Fine thread suits hardwood.
- Coating. Use Protec-Kote, stainless, or weather-resistant screws outdoors. Zinc is for indoor work.
- Length. Pocket-hole screw length follows material thickness, so match it to your jig setting.
- Tool fit. Collated drywall screws must match the screw gun, such as the Festool DWC 18.

Screws FAQ
Which Kreg screw do I need?
Pick by wood and thickness. Use coarse thread in softwood, plywood, and MDF, and fine thread in hardwood. For 3/4" stock, 1-1/4" screws are standard. The No. 14 screws are for the HD jig, and 4" XL screws suit thick framing joints.
Can I use deck screws in pocket holes?
It is not recommended. Pocket-hole screws have a flat washer or pan head that seats in the bottom of the pocket. A bugle head deck screw can split the wood or pull through. Use the Kreg outdoor pocket-hole kit for exterior projects.
