A rail about 55" handles crosscuts on full sheets. For ripping an 8-foot sheet, choose a 106" to 118" rail, or join two shorter rails with a connector pair. Festool connectors note that two are required per joint.
Do Festool and Makita rails interchange?

When should I replace a splinter guard?
Replace it when it is torn, worn back from the blade, or no longer gives a clean edge. After installing a fresh strip, make a first cut so the saw trims it exactly to the blade line.
